Kindred Reels is now Kindred Scenes. Same app, same films, and your old links still work.

Kindred Scenes is in beta. We will update this page as the service changes.
Kindred Reels LLC ("we," "our," or "us") runs Kindred Scenes, a service that collects photos, videos and voice recordings from a group of people and turns them into one edited video. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, which companies help us run the service, and the choices you have. It covers people with an account and people who add content through a share link without one.
We use your information to:
To build your video we analyze every photo and video you add. Copies are stored in Google Cloud, where Google's Gemini models describe each one, judge its quality, pick out the best moments, and suggest how to order, group and title them. Speech in your video clips is transcribed by software that runs on our own servers in Google Cloud. Google handles this content for us as a service provider under Google Cloud's terms, which do not allow Google to use it to train its models.
Google's Gemini models run on Google's worldwide network, so this analysis may take place in data centers outside the United States. Your files are stored in the United States.
The same analysis checks content against safety rules. A photo or video that fails this check may be left out of your video automatically.
We use face recognition only when you make a tribute video and add the people it celebrates. Before any face data is created, the app shows you what happens and asks you to agree. We record who agreed, when, and which version of the wording they saw. Without that agreement, we do not create face templates or compare faces for the project.
For each person you add, you pick up to ten reference photos and choose that person's face in each one. Amazon Rekognition creates a face template from each face you choose: a set of measurements that describes the face. When your timeline is built, we compare every face in the project's photos with those templates to find the photos each person appears in. That comparison looks at every face in those photos, but we store templates only for the people you add.
For each photo we compare, we keep the result with the photo: how closely the closest face matched each person, and whether that person was found. A tribute leaves out the photos its honoree was not found in, and you can add any of them back.
We also keep small cropped images of the faces shown during setup, so you can see which face you picked.
Only to find those people in the same project, so your video can feature them. We never sell face templates, never use them in another project, and share them with no one except Amazon Web Services, which creates and stores them for us.
A person's face templates, face images and match results are deleted when you remove that person from the tribute, when you delete the project, or when your account is deleted. Until one of those happens they are kept with the project, so the video can be rebuilt. You can also ask us to delete them at any time by writing to hello@kindredscenes.com.
Removing a person from the tribute deletes that person's face templates and their match results on every photo. To withdraw your agreement for the whole project, remove everyone from the tribute, delete the project, or write to hello@kindredscenes.com. Once it is withdrawn, we delete every match result in the project and make no new face templates for it unless you agree again. Photos already left out of the video stay where they are until you move them. Outside tributes, we only detect where faces are in photos so we can frame them; that uses Google's Gemini models and, for a few photos, Amazon Rekognition. It finds faces but does not identify anyone, and no face template is made.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
These companies help us run Kindred Scenes:
Each provider has its own privacy policy. Nothing is charged during the beta. Before paid plans start, we will add our payment processor to this list.
Google Analytics records the pages you visit, your device and browser, and an approximate location based on your IP address. It uses cookies to recognize a returning browser. You can block it with Google's opt-out add-on or your browser settings.
If you import from Google Photos, you choose the items in Google's own picker. We receive only the items you pick, copy them into your project, and process them like any other upload.
If you have an account, we keep a Google access token so you can import again without signing in each time. You can revoke that access at any time in your Google account settings, or ask us to delete the stored token. Contributors without an account get one-time access: we hold their Google token for at most two hours and keep no way to renew it.
We use information received from Google APIs only to provide this import. Our use follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Kindred Scenes uses YouTube API Services to let you upload your finished videos to your YouTube channel. By connecting your YouTube account, you authorize Kindred Scenes to upload videos on your behalf using the YouTube Data API v3. Our use of information received from YouTube APIs also follows the Google Privacy Policy.
When you connect your YouTube account, we store the tokens that let us upload on your behalf. If you upload a video to YouTube, we store the resulting YouTube video ID and link with your Kindred Scenes video.
You can revoke Kindred Scenes' access to your Google account at any time in Google's security settings. That stops the stored tokens from working. To have them deleted from our records too, write to hello@kindredscenes.com, or delete your account, which removes them. YouTube video IDs and links are deleted when you delete the Kindred Scenes video, its project, or your account.
People invited through a share link can add photos, videos and voice recordings without an account. We keep the name they type and a random ID stored in their browser, so their additions stay together. What they add becomes part of that project and is processed the same way as the owner's content, including face recognition if the owner has set up a tribute and agreed to it. The project owner can remove anything they add, and it is deleted with the project.
A contributor can ask us to delete what they added by writing to hello@kindredscenes.com.
When you invite someone, we send them an email or text message on your behalf using the contact details you give us, and we may send a reminder. Only enter details for people who would expect to hear from you.
You can ask us to:
You can also withdraw your agreement to face recognition at any time: remove everyone from the tribute, delete the project, or write to us. Removing one person deletes only that person's face templates. See Face recognition. To make any of these requests, write to hello@kindredscenes.com.
You can delete your account yourself: sign in, open Account (click your name at the top of the page), and choose Delete my account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm. We sign you out straight away and start deleting. It usually finishes within minutes; a very large account can take longer. We email you when it is done. If something goes wrong partway, we are alerted and finish it by hand.
If you would rather we do it, or you cannot sign in, email hello@kindredscenes.com from the address on the account. We handle these requests by hand and aim to finish within 30 days.
Either way, we delete your sign-in and every project you own, with all their photos, videos, voice recordings, finished videos and share links, including anything other people added to them. We delete the people you set up in tributes and their face templates and face images, the music you uploaded, messages you sent us through the feedback form, and our records of emails we sent you. We also withdraw our access to any Google Photos or YouTube account you connected.
Backup copies of deleted files expire on their own within about five weeks.
A few things are kept: internal records of processing costs, which do not contain your name or email address; overall usage totals that do not identify anyone; for up to two weeks, daily usage records that list your account and projects by an internal ID, never by name or email address; server logs, which can contain your user ID or email address; and the emails you exchanged with us. Anything you added to someone else's project as a contributor stays in that project; ask the project owner or us to remove it.
We also keep a short record of how your account used the app: the steps you reached and when (such as signing up, starting a project or sharing a video), the site and campaign link that brought you to us, the page you first landed on, the kind of device you used, and any errors or refusals you ran into. It is kept under a new random number that is not linked to your account, your name or your email address.
We use cookies and similar browser storage to:
You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly without them.
You must be 18 or older to create an account. Contributors should be adults too; a child should add memories only with a parent's help. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have, we will delete it promptly.
Family photos and videos often show children. A project can be seen only by its owner and the people who have one of its links.
Kindred Scenes is run from the United States, and your information is stored there. Some processing by Google may take place in other countries, as described in How your content is processed.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will tell you about material changes by email or in the app. If you keep using Kindred Scenes after a change, the updated policy applies.
